How Comfort Care was Started

Comfort Care was formed in 1997 by Beverly J. Fetzner to provide an alternative to nursing home placement. Bev was distressed by the lack of reliable and trustworthy care that was available to her patients. As a hospice nurse, she was concerned for them, not only when she was in their homes, but when she was not. Seeing a need for change and choice in these peoples’ lives, Bev envisioned a 24 hour home care agency that would provide an alternative for those considering institutionalization.

Bev took out a yellow legal pad late one night and began sketching what would become Comfort Care. She put in her 3 weeks notice, strapped a pager to her waist, and made a leap of faith. Little did she know how much her vision would grow.

From the beginning of Comfort Care, Bev’s son Jim Fetzner was involved in the vision of the company; designing the original logo, working as a caregiver in summers, and advising his mom on business matters throughout college. Jim joined the company full time in 2004 to help build on what Bev had started.

As CEO Jim has crafted the mission of Comfort Care & Resources (To Make the Traditional Nursing Home Irrelevant) and developed the vision to include Brookside Homes, cutting edge healthcare information technology, and much more.

With the help and support of many people, Comfort Care & Resources has grown tremendously over the years and is seen as a leading voice of change for long term care, not only in our communities but across the country.
