Comfort Care & Resources will be participating in the eleventh annual Memory Walk, “Taking steps to end Alzheimer’s”. Caregivers and office administrators from within the company are raising money and walking for this worthy cause. Danielle Wheeler, Long Term Care Consultant for the company states, “We have better participation than we expected… Initially we were hoping for just a few participants—but over 20 caregivers have already signed up, while more continue to do so daily.”
Customarily, walkers are asked to raise money for the cause. All money raised goes towards the advancement of research for this disease, and possible treatments, as well as for finding a cure. In previous years walkers would sell chocolate bars or sell pages of paper that listed “In memory of…” or “In honor of…” to pay tribute to a loved one. However, Comfort Care decided to go with a different approach to fundraising this year.
To raise money, the company and its walkers are selling rubber livestrong-type bracelets with “A Reason to Hope” printed on them. The bracelets are being sold for $2, and all money raised will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association. The Comfort Care team initially purchased 100 bracelets to sell, and has already had to order more!
Ms. Wheeler has lead others in the walk for multiple years now. New to the company, she started a team at her previous job, and proudly carried over the tradition to Comfort Care when she was hired earlier this spring. “I do it because it’s a part of my job, working with seniors. Not only that, but I do it to honor my Great Grandmother, and Grandmother who both suffered from this disease.”
All of those who choose to participate within the company will receive a team t-shirt, displaying “Memory Walk 2010” as well as the Comfort Care & Resources trademark logo. Additionally, for every bracelet sold, buyers will have the chance to honor their loved ones by having their name printed on the back on the team’s shirt.
The walk will be held at the Pepsi Amphitheatre in Liberty Park from 9 to noon on the morning of the 25th. Registration starts at 8. Many local businesses are anticipated to contribute coffee, snacks, entertainment and prizes for all those who come out to support the cause. Even if you are unable to walk or raise money, feel welcome to come down and cheer on Comfort Care and the other teams who are taking steps towards the fight against Alzheimer’s.
